Finished!

One quilt, ready to hang and go into the auction at the Northern Lights Quilt Guild Quilt Show. I like the look of the facing on this one... a border/binding would not have worked.

I wanted to cover the entire back of this one, as the paint seeped through... rusty orange and lavender - blech (for this anyways, I'm sure that combination would be perfect for something!). And it's going in the auction at a fairly traditional quilt show where people are still in the habit of looking at the back!

Anyways, I tried facing it with the pillowcase method, using a fusible to hold it down after turning. I would NOT do this if it were going anywhere else, but it was a good opportunity to see how it would, ehem, "turn out". The verdict is... not great, there is some wrinkling, but that could be fixed with practice. Again, i think it's ok for where it's headed - they're bidding on the front, not the back! I did sew my sleeve on the back before attaching it to the quilt. I'm not fond of utilitarian hand sewing.

Primed and ready to go!

I didn't get a huge amount done this week, we went to Maine to visit my mom and a friend. And the kids are home!!!

Here are the quilts as they are at the moment... they have been primed. The pictures are a little wonky as they were taken with the quilts where they are on the floor. My painting space is a tarp spread out on the floor at the moment while we work on getting another part of the basement set up for painting.

Hey, hey, hey!

On Wednesday, I dragged Steve to a small art exhibit, Intertwined, in Waitsfield, Vt at the Festival Gallery. We had a lovely afternoon out together. We had lunch at Kismet in Montpelier, Vt. We started with a kale salad with a very garlicky dressing - we were fighting over the last few pieces. The entree was a buckwheat crepe Benedict, also plate-licking good! Num, num, num...

Oh, yeah, this is supposed to be about the show!

It took a bit of driving back and forth in Waitsfield before we found the gallery. Sugarbush ski area is nearby, so there is more to the town than you would expect in the middle of Vermont - we hadn't driven quite far enough through town. We walked in to the gallery and we were greeted by a beautiful black lab, who, when he found out we didn't have any treats, lost interest in us. There was a nice variety of techniques on display, from a fairly traditional wall quilt in the style of Ruth McDowell to basketry to finely knit items. Two that I thought were particularly interesting were by Elizabeth Fram : Dawn Patrol and Shadow Walk. Using just the image of the shadow changes the perspective a great deal. The show closed today, so I am very glad we made it out there.

In other news:
My long arm is empty!

Here is what just came off

It's all one piece at the moment - probably not a method taught be Handi-Quilter, but I don't follow rules very well anyways. They just need to be cut apart and then I can start painting!

Last night we got to see Bill Cosby perform. Since the Fat Albert show started when I was about 5, I don't remember not knowing the name Bill Cosby. He is 75 now and just as funny as ever. It was truly a treat to see such an icon in person.
